My moqueca is better than yours

I would like to eventually become a vegetarian but haven’t found a balanced enough diet to absorb all the protein I need. So for the time being I am still an occasional pescatarian and one of my favorite go-to recipes is a typical Brazilian dish called Moqueca. This fish stew is a must try!


Moqueca de Peixe Recipe
4 tilapia fillets, cut into large portions
3 cloves garlic minced
2 lemons juice
Ground black pepper
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 yellow onion chopped
1 red pepper chopped, seeded
2 tomatoes chopped
1 Tbsp paprika
1 can coconut milk
1 bunch of cilantro chopped


1. Combine fish, garlic and lemon juice in a bow and place it in the fridge for about 1 hour. Add salt and pepper

2. In a large pan heat olive oil on medium heat. Then add onion and cook it until softened. Add paprika, red pepper and potatoes and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Once the pepper begins to soften. Cook it uncovered for 5 minutes, medium heat.

3. Remove fish from fridge. With a large spoon remove half of the vegetables and pour into a bowl in order to create a bed for the fish. Add tomatoes, cilantro as well as the combination of fish, garlic and lemon juice on top of the vegetables. Cover it with previously removed vegetables and pour coconut milk over it.

4. Let simmer for 20 minutes, covered. Garnish with cilantro. Serve with quinoa or brown rice.
