To my sister, with love

Today is my big sis’s birthday and I want to make this post a tribute to her, my sister Virgínia! We are bonded for life… and I think this image represents everything I want to say today:
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart) …

Do you have a big sister? Or a lit one? Or maybe a friend that is almost like a sister? I am very grateful for mine and want to make today a very special day for her, so let me tell you why…
She is one of the most giving, loving, caring, intelligent and spiritual people I’ve ever know! Beautiful inside and out, she can talk hours about the latest fashion trend or the most intellectual or spiritual subject in the face of the Earth! Oh and she is a lawyer, and she studies a lot – have I mentioned she is SO intelligent? Poor me that can’t understand anything she says that is law related! But she is able to make the transition to ‘my world’ so easily, she gets my field, she gets design, she gets creativity – she is so creative herself!
And she has the best intuition… She knows when I am sad or when I need help, like she really just knows me – even when I live in another country with a different time zone. She just knows and she calls me even before I ask for help…
To understand anything about our relationship you gotta know one amazing thing about when it started: when I was in my mom’s belly but no one knew yet. When Virgínia was 3 years old she started to ask my mom “Who is that girl that is smiling at me?” or “Mom, can I play with this lit girl?” and my mom would look around and there was no one there to be found. (I know… this sounds like “The Sixth Sense”) But my mom had no idea she was pregnant because she wasn’t planning or even physically capable of having more kids. Medicine and logical aside, I was quite a surprise baby! And by the time my parents knew a baby was coming and there was no money to pay for the exam to find out my sex my mom just trusted that Virgínia was right about me being a girl. When they were choosing names Virgínia was the one that suggested “Vanessa” right before my mom left to the hospital… Isn’t it cute? She has so much influence in my life that even my name was her say…
So because of our history, because she chose my name, because she welcomed me to this world so beautifully, because she has always been there for me, because of the good and not so good moments in life, because we have been exchanging smiles for over 30 years and because how much Virgínia and I seem to literally have a ‘out of this world’ relationship I must say how much I am forever grateful for her presence in my life!
Happy birthday, eu te amo!
